I performed and guided visitors to the park through an embodied sequence with landscape architect Anna Fink for a residency in Amstelpark. The idea was to create a path that disrupted or ignored the paths laid down by the original ‘Floriade’ designers, which reduced the park to an exhibition space. The concern about the paths is that, as soon as you enter, the smooth concrete allows your feet, in rubber soled shoes, to move at a high velocity through and past the many plant inhabitants without being forced to pause. The main achievement of the path would be to create an encounter with a living being where you could actually notice being spoken to.
We told participants: “In your approach to a plant you WILL feel something, you just need to notice it”. We got feedback that we managed to help some feel a plant saying something, and then for a moment hold on to the feeling.
